PACIFICA’S ROCK GARDEN and WATERFALL

The fascinating geology of the Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains, along with their unique climate, have created a magical place: home to Big Foot (and Little Foot!) along with an exciting diversity of plants.

Incredibly rich botanically, the Siskiyous deserve a fitting showcase that Pacifica is working to develop.  Although the scope of this impressive 2-acre rock garden will be international, there will be an emphasis on plants of the Klamath-Siskiyou.

A place for visitors to easily (without hours of travel and hiking) learn about and enjoy some of this area’s and the world’s alpine treasures, the rock garden will also provide a magnificent frontispiece for the garden as a whole.

PACIFICA’S ROCK GARDEN

The Rock Garden at Pacifica, one day up to 2 acres in expanse with a 60 foot waterfall, will be international in scope. However, there will be an emphasis on plants of the Klamath-Siskiyou.

The Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains that we see out the window have more kinds of native plants than almost any other area of the country. The mountains’ fascinating geology, along with their unique climate and history, provide habitats for an exciting diversity of plants (some plants that grow only here, nowhere else in the world). Incredibly rich botanically, the Siskiyous deserve a fitting showcase which Pacifica can provide.

In addition to providing a magnificent frontispiece for the garden as a whole, the rock garden will be a place for visitors to enjoy and learn about some of this area’s and the world’s alpine treasures, without hours of travel and hiking.

The design on the first half of this magnificent garden was done by Josef Halda, an internationally-renowned rock garden designer. One interesting and practical element of Mr Halda’s design work is what he calls the “Czech-style” crevice garden. This technique allows even the home gardener to include “fussy alpines” in their collection.
