Greetings from the Caterpillar!

The Caterpillar is a unique mobile science and nature center in a 32 foot trailer (with antennae and eyes added to the front)! Brought to you by your neighbors at Pacifica: A Garden in the Siskiyous, it has been taking hands-on science to Southern Oregon elementary schools in Josephine and Jackson Counties for over ten years, involving up to 9,500 kids and adults per year. The Caterpillar’s hands-on activities & curriculum foster knowledge and joy of science and nature while also providing changing displays and equipment that might not otherwise be available. Grants, fundraising and our sponsors provide support, with schools contributing only 1/3 of the cost.

This unique educational program does more than provide schools with fun curriculum that meets state benchmark requirements for nature and science studies. We also offer nature day camps in the summer, participate in educational community events, and hold family-friendly fundraisers throughout the year. We invite you to learn more about the important role The Caterpillar plays in your community and how you can get involved! Together we can spread the word that nature and science are important and fun!
