Caterpillar’s Program

It is now time to book Pacifica’s traveling science trailer the, “Caterpillar” to come to your school to present our Pollination program. It is also time for your school to book a spring field trip to Pacifica for grades K-6.

In the Pollination Program students will be learning about pollinators from butterflies to bees. We will learn about the importance of Monarch preservation, flower adaptations, as well as identifying and learning about pollinators in our own backyard! This is an exciting program with fun, hands-on activities.

In this program, pollination activities are correlated to state benchmarks and are age appropriate. On board our science trailer, “The Caterpillar,” students in K-1st participate in a 45-minute program; 2nd-6th grades, a 75-minute program including take-home journals.

The cost for a school visit is $200 per day for Josephine Co. schools, $250 per day for Jackson Co. schools, and $250 per day for Douglas Co. schools. (We secure funding for at least half of the cost to get to your school, as our total operating cost is approximately $550 per day!) We also offer a multiple-day discount. Four classes per day can visit the Caterpillar! Please contact us soon, as we will fill our calendar quickly! Our Pollination program is the same program as last spring as we were not able to visit all schools. If your school has already had the Pollination program you can book it for any grades who did not attend.

If needed, you might seek funding from your parent organization to help support a Caterpillar visit—or for a field trip to the Caterpillar’s home at Pacifica Garden in Williams! All proceeds help maintain our program.

At Pacifica, we offer nature-based field trips in the month of May. You can book your school’s spring field trip now! We customize each field trip time schedule for your school. Last spring, we hosted over 1,000 students and adults at our engaging, fun, and educational field trips. The field trips cost $4.00 per student; you bring your picnic lunches and spend the day rotating between stations. Pacifica is just 30 minutes from Grants Pass and 45 minutes from Medford.

The Caterpillar is an outstanding program with lots of appropriate hands-on activities. My children love it and talk about it all day. They really remember what they saw, heard, and did. ~
