Botanical Gardens
It is our vision that Pacifica will be a botanic garden that is a “living museum”, a collection of plants arranged in a park-light setting for education, research and enjoyment. The 6000 kinds of ornamental and useful plants grown by Forestfarm Nursery will form the base for this garden.
Two hundred and fifty of Pacifica’s acres are destined to become this public Botanic Garden representing diverse geo-botanical areas of the world. Areas would include examples of the plants of multiple regions of the United States and the Southern Hemisphere. A large area is dedicated to a representation of the Pacific Northwest and the Klamath-Siskiyou Region. The smaller, intensively planted interpretive areas, such as the Klamath -Siskiyou Region’s Western Native Garden and Alpine Rock Garden, are the access points to the the longer interconnecting trails through out the larger botanic areas.
These areas will have intersecting trails with changing interpretive themes. In keeping with our commitment to hands on learning, trail stations will provide varied, interactive opportunities for learners of all ages. All plantings will have permanent identification labels.
The Botanic Gardens involve people with plants at multiple levels from ethnobotany to landscape design to revegetation and the needs of the environment. They will ultimately provide propagation stock to support the horticultural industry, research and vocational development. The Botanic Garden with all of its facets, is the living demonstration of Pacifica’s mission and dedication to sustainable development.
