Pacifica’s Rock Garden

The Rock Garden (currently under development) will be 2 acres in expanse with a 60 foot waterfall, emphasizing plants of the Klamath-Siskiyou region. In addition to providing a magnificent frontispiece for the garden as a whole, the Rock Garden will be a place for visitors to enjoy and learn about some of this area’s (and indeed, the world’s) alpine treasures without hours of travel and hiking.

The Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains, which we are so fortunate to view out our windows every day, have more kinds of native plants than almost any other area of the country. The mountains’ fascinating geology, along with their unique climate and history, provide habitats for an exciting diversity of plants (some of which grow nowhere else in the world). The Siskiyous, which are so incredibly botanically rich, deserve a fitting showcase which Pacifica can provide.

The design for the first half of this magnificent garden was done by Josef Halda, an internationally-renowned rock garden designer. One interesting and practical element of Halda’s design work is what he calls the “Czech-style” crevice garden. This technique allows even the home gardener to include “fussy alpines” in their collection.

If you would like to be a part of developing this future garden, we would love to hear from you! Please reach out to info@pacificagarden.org with any interest.
